Self-Directed Learning

Also known as child-led learning or student-centered learning, this approach puts the students at the center of their learning program. Learn how it is possible to take this approach and include every major academic subject, in groups as well as one-on-one.

Creative Project-Based Teaching

Any course of study can have an individualized creative project that serves as an engaging goal for the student, and as a learning and assessment tool. Laurie will share examples of many projects where learning seems to happen all by itself!

Creating a Personalized Curriculum

Using examples of child-led curriculum created for students with specific interests, Laurie will help you learn how to create your own personalized curriculum, tailored for any individual or group.

Teaching Writing as a Creative Process

There are many ways to teach writing that can accommodate a wide variety of learning styles and intelligences. Laurie will introduce ways to engage children in writing fiction and nonfiction, using visual techniques, and improvisational games that offer a creative group experience. Particularly good for students who are reluctant writers!

Games for Educators

Adults need to play as much as children do! Join in the fun and learn how to play the games of Viola Spolin and Neva Boyd with your children and students. These games can open minds, lower anxiety, inspire imagination, and increase productivity in learning. Participants will also practice non-judgmental feedback.
