Project-Based Self-Directed Learning

Also known as child-led learning or student-centered learning, the self-directed approach puts the student’s interests and needs at the center of their learning program. Learn how it is possible to take this approach and include every major academic subject, in groups as well as one-on-one.

See: Ten Reasons Why Self-Directed Learning Works So Well

The Side-Coach as Educator

In Spolin games, the teacher becomes a side-coach, a nearly invisible presence that offers guidance without interrupting the student’s flow or distracting them from their focus. In this group workshop, you will experience being side-coached while playing Spolin theater games. Participants will also have the opportunity to side-coach fellow players.

Literacy Through Book Arts

Sometimes the right blank materials are all that’s needed to inspire a child to write and create. It is even more powerful when the child makes those blank materials from scratch. Learn how to teach simple bookmaking techniques to children and how to pair bookmaking with poetry, writing games and engaging lessons.

Teaching Writing as a Creative Process

There are many ways to teach writing that can accommodate a wide variety of learning styles and intelligences. Laurie will introduce ways to engage children in writing fiction and creative nonfiction, using unconventional techniques and improvisational games that offer a creative group experience with personalized results. These techniques are particularly good for reluctant writers!

Games for Educators

Adults need to play as much as children do! Join in the fun and learn how to play the games of Viola Spolin and Neva Boyd with your children and students. These games can calm the nervous system and lower anxiety, develop sensory awareness and intuition, inspire imagination, and increase productivity in learning. Players also participate in non-judgmental feedback.

Let’s Create Something New!
